Will Anthony Grant come back full circle?

Kentucky alters are statistically rare.
Thanks for broadening your horizons.

Grant was a damn good coach. Just couldn't seem to get players down there.

Got robbed of a Final Four at Dayton when the NCAA pussies canceled the tournament.

So did the SEC champions that year. Everyone was robbed. Chuck Fina.

Bama wasn't. They sucked that season, and used covid to buy up some players in a season where Duke, Kentucky, and everybody else basically sat out. Covid was a freaking gift for Bama basketball.

Oates will crawl through five miles of knee-deep pig schitt just to hear the Louisville BOT fart through a walkie talkie.

Knee deep relative to someone crawling or relative to someone walking? This is a critically important detail.

Grant is a better coach than often credited.
His issue at Alabama was recruiting.
It seemed to be the same story every recruiting cycle: be one of the final 2-3 choices of a lot of top 50 kids and get none of them and then end up with an afterthought player that transfers to be a role player at Alabama State.
Seems that at Dayton the pressure is slightly lower to just concentrate on recruiting the players he wants and isn't competing against Kentucky and Kansas to sign.

He got some good ones, but couldn't keep them. Tony Mitchell turned out to be a head case. Devonta Pollard got caught up in his crazy mama's kidnapping scheme, and a couple more just didn't pan out and/or stick around.
The biggest problem he had was that he just was a square peg for a round hole. Alabama and Auburn are similar in that football is the only sport a lot of people follow. We call ours FOGs (Football Only Gumps).
To succeed, you've got to have a guy that can both coach and generate program energy. Pearl has done that spectacularly at Auburn. Grant is a really good coach and by all reports a great man, but he just didn't have the personality to do the other things to generate that buzz. Avery had the energy part down perfectly, but was at best an average coach.
Oats, like Pearl, has both qualities - which is our teams are playing for first place in the SEC and the inside track to the regular season conference title tonight
Edited to add: I don't know any Bama hoops fan that isn't glad to see Grant having success post-Bama.

what you mean by recruiting is a shitty offensive system.

I reckon Releford, Mitchell, and Green would have been just fine in Oats’ offense

Here are the transfers
