Actually, no power program has gone through this. When those schools made changes, their portals coincided with the regular transfer portal. Their staffs were allowed to recruit other transfers to replace whoever the lost. Bama can't do that.
It's really a perfect storm. Coach retires with a top 5 roster, and every single DI school can go into a bidding war for the players because of NIL. Bama's coaches are prohibited from adding any transfers to replace them because that portal only goes one way.
Sucks for us, but those are the rules right now.

Portal is coming open in the spring.
