Not necessarily. Seems like the majority of guys who hop in the portal in the Spring are doing so because they don't like where they are on the depth chart after Spring ball.

That doesn't necessarily mean they aren’t good options. Really depends on how good the guy they're behind is. The fact that other programs get to have open season on poaching our roster while we can't do shite to replace anyone before spring practice with a new staff is ridiculous though. The whole arrangement is kind of absurd, but at least we have empowered these college students, a demographic renowned for its responsible decision making.

You are both kinda right.

Usually, the guys leaving after spring ball are depth pieces. Usually.

But schools like Alabama don't usually have a clear opening at WR1 at that time of the year, either.
Jordan Addison was the reigning Biletnikoff winner and entered the transfer portal in May to leave Pitt for USC.

There is nothing to say someone like a Jermaine Burton, A.D. Mitchell type doesn't hit the portal to come here despite being high in the pecking order where they are currently because they see the opportunity at Bama. There just isn't much precedent for it because it rarely happens this late.
