nah, 7th or 8th grade is a good time to get kids a taste of real football. Nobody is big enough to do any real damage at that age..or at least they weren't when I played in the 90's.

I'm conflicted on this. I started playing in the 5th grade all through college. I learned a lot playing early. It taught me teamwork, discipline and to toughen up and not be a cry baby. I've tried to steer my son towards basketball in HS instead of football because of all the injuries I suffered in college and concern for his long term health. Was that fair to him? He is a much better football player than basketball player?

Has there been studies on young kids health? Like someone else said, I'm not sure I want the state to come up with their own rules on such a controversial subject, especially if they have no facts.
