The inevitable endpoint seems to be the disassociation of college football and colleges. Why should a minor league system with constant free agency be associated with predominantly state run institutions of higher learning? The continued association has been a farce for a while now (we all know it, we just ignore it because we enjoy the product), but it is rapidly becoming too ridiculous to ignore.

Because the schools want the money. They aren't ever going to let that go.

If this disassocation ever happened people (players in particular) would find out really quickly that despite the celebrity of some college players it is still the name on the FRONT of the jerseys that the vast majority of college football fans care about and why they are watching and spending money. You disassocate these teams from the schools and just make it a lesser pro league/minor league then you will have dozens of people watching, about like the XFL. And the players and coaches would be compensated accordingly. Here is your $25k salary. I know it’s not even close to the $250k degree you used to get, but good luck in your future endeavors!
