If I'm an NFL GM

I wouldn't draft any player who opts out on his team.
Why? Because leadership and loyalty are just as important as talent and ability.
That tells me a lot about a player and it's absolutely zero surprise that Joe Milton opted out.
Thank the heavens. Anyone who opts out is not a VFL as far as I'm concerned though. That includes Jalen Wright and Jabari Small. Both are beasts but give me me a roster of guys who are willing to truly give their all to Tennessee.
That's how championship teams are built.
Do you know why Bama and UGA are so successful? They built a team with a culture of players who want to win and be the best by all means possible.
Yeah the stockpile of NFL talent helps as well. But look at Aggies. Talent doesn't matter if your culture sucks and half your elite talent is apathetic about your team and school winning anything of substance.
I noticed Kirby is bringing in these overlooked talented white kids who have not only have talent but an incredible desire to win. Guys like that are very important to a good lockeroom. Milroe at Bama has that mindset as well I've noticed. These are the real gem of players that you want.
That mixed with elite 5 and 4 star talent is what makes them so successful imo. Very few UGA opt outs last night i noticed.

They can’t do that. They have to draft on talent. But if two players are close, I’d definitely pick the kid that didn’t bail on his team.

I’d bet an open hand slap to the face that the NFL encourages some of the kids to opt out of the bowl games.

So you wouldn't have drafted Ja'Marr Chase if he had fallen to your NFL team? Just one example out of many. They can't afford to think that way.

If I were an NFL GM, I would want any player on my draft board to opt out of their bowl game. Would personally call them and ask them to.

I RA'd this thread just to piss you off

I agree. I know it’s extremely difficult to do. But winning a Super Bowl is extremely difficult. And it’s very hard to find 53 paid professionals to care enough about winning. And I believe weeding them out this way could be a good way of finding this out
There’s no chance I believe fsu has 29 draft eligible players that opted out yesterday lol

Great idea OP. Problem is the NFL and NCAA support the idea of the inmates running the asylum. So that turns everything upside down.

The NFL doesn't give a shite about opt outs. They care about talent, work ethic and staying out of trouble. Following your strategy would severely restrict their draft boards, at least in the first 2-3 rounds.

Sounds good, doesn’t work. You fail to draft Christian McCaffrey or Micah Parsons because they opted out and that’s how you lose your job as a GM.

This is pie in the sky thinking. Jamarr Chase and Micah Parsons opted out for an entire fricking season and were still the first players drafted at their positions

An NFL team drafted Joe Mixon in the 2nd round after a video showed him knocking a girl out with a punch to her face and you think they'll pass on someone because they opt out of a meaningless bowl game

We live in a coin operated society. If there is no coin (ie incentive to play) they don’t play. The NFL has pay to play so it’s not an issue.

Just to be clear….
You wouldn’t draft Marvin Harrison Jr if you needed a WR?
Got it

You'd be fired after 3 seasons, if that.

After the NFL happens, you will forget who opted in or out of the bowl games. It doesn't matter. In a lot of cases, I'd rather the players who won't be here to opt out so that we can see the new guys replace them in relevant action.
