like a charm. Playing in a horrible conference so they can pad their football stats.

It's nice to see them suffering for it now.

They can't join any other conference at this point. They got suckered into the current deal by an ACC that doesn't care about football as a sport while FSU negligently failed to read the fine print on the GOR. The fine print that FINES THEM OVER HALF A BILLION DOLLARS if they leave the conference early.

Now it is apparent they've tried to strong-arm the ACC into changing the GOR and the ACC gave them the finger. Their only resort now is to sue the ACC to force them to let them go. And it appears the legal argument they are about to use is that they really don't like the deal they agreed to, or somehow failed to read.

FSU is well and truly fricked.

Good.

It’s actually more simple than that. They got a new attention whore Harvard president that maybe thinks he can get in the SEC and AAU. This is grandstanding. Haven’t seen a single invite.

It’s what texas did with the SWC and big12. Instead of going to a stronger conference they chose to be the biggest fish in a small pond. Not picking on texas but that’s what they did.

It’s the best opportunity for a no loss season and a shot at a title, though it rarely worked out.

fsu had their shot at getting in and should be made to live with it. texas is taking the step so hats off to them.

If FSU (in the prime of the Bowden era) could have ditched Miami in the regular season and played in the SEC instead, I think they might have won more national titles.

I viewed a paywall article recently [Otherwise I would link] which really put the onus of FSU's situation back on them.

As OP mentions, Bobby was of course quoted for saying 'He was like George Foreman' beating up on no-names, the way Bowden preferred it in joining the ACC.

But the article also pointed out after their acceptance in the ACC, they reaffirmed their joint support a couple of times, then let down the conference ... for not doing their part - winning.

Authors point was the ACC was weak, in part, because they've had no real competition in the conference other than Clemson, who would receive automatic bids to the CFP.

They are reaping what they have sown.

You people are beyond delusional. When FSU decided to join the ACC in 1991, the SEC hadn’t won a national championship in 11 years. In fact, Clemson had won one more recently and we played Miami (nattys in 83, 87, 89, 91) Clemson (81) and Florida every year as well as tough non conference games. People forget we had a series with Auburn in the 70s and 80s and LSU in the 90s etc as well. So don’t act like we played trash competition. SEC is scared of FSU joining because yall need Florida recruits and don’t want to lose out on more of them since your fly over states can’t produce as much talent just like Oklahoma leaching off of Texas.

FSU best bet is to calm down and stay in the ACC. They'll get in the playoffs starting next year with almost no resistance.
