That’s an arse whoopin ratings wise. One rivalry is fiercely-regional while the other seems to resonate on a national level. At least when both schools are ranked top 3.

Still: strange brag after your team lost.

Not really. It resonates on a national level when both teams are in line to make the playoff… like this year.

In 2013, the Iron Bowl featured two teams in the Top 4 and drew 14 million viewers…. And OSU-Michigan was only at 9.5 million on the same day.

The National audience is attracted when one or more teams are in the thick of the National Title hunt. Otherwise both mainly draw their audiences from the immediate region.

As noted previously, the state of Alabama is only 5 million in population compared to 22 million for Ohio+Michigan. Their “region” is a whole lot bigger.
