Not a Gump, but I’d still say he orchestrated one of the most impressive mid-season turnarounds I’ve ever seen. That Bama team that played USF in the first half would have lost 8 games this year. Somehow Saban got it together and he’s looking likely to finish 11-2. That’s impressive.

Kirby has done the same thing this year. That team is light years better than the start of the season and peaking at the perfect time. Elite coaching makes more of a difference now than ever.

ETA: That’s also why I think system coaches struggle to get over the championship hurdles.
