Kick 6 on Al.com
Gives you a step by step process of what we go through on a play of that magnitude .....Even to the point of a huge mistake the crew made during the return. I'll give you a play, after that you have to feel and prepare for ....
LINK
We had a game where the last time out is used to ice the kicker on the try for point that will tie the game. Both teams at their sidelines .....We are reading our cards and comparing time out notes to insure that all time outs have been exhausted. I looked up and saw my side coming out for the try.....lacking the kicker. Suddenly I let the White Hat and the Head linesman know ....."Back off, get to the corner .....look for an LSU!" Normally we pinch in to stop the crap inside ...LSU had faked a kick the week before and won a game on the fake.
Our holder took the snap, then tossed the ball up and over his shoulder. I'm standing at the pylon about three yards off and waiting for the herd coming my way ......At the last second he tosses the ball into the end zone ....I had seen the receiver coming across. Now our next problem ,,,,He's bobbling the ball. Only time I ever thought this...."Catch that ball kid, We're running out of room." He got control two steps in bounds. Two points game over ,,,
The SEC crew on that field did not think for a moment that Davis would return the ball. They tell you about the mistakes they made ......luckily there was not one bad block, not one missed penalty.
On Tiger.land I pointed out that the line official was out of position on the run ...No one to call the sideline ...You see stripes appear well after Davis drifted away from the sideline .....I remember thinking ...."You guys messed up, stopped communicating. They tell you in detail the mistakes they made ....Good Read ......the best anticipate and consider what if .....

I was at the game as a student. Lot of good tidbits. I read it this morning. One thing I had completely forgot about was Gus swapping who was back there after the timeout. Also a crazy what if but never thought about AJ not being in there to hold. If he is in there he probably would have made the tackle just from being more athletic than their backup holder

Meh. Was hoping for more insider info than what took place against LSU.

So they did their job?
Fantastic!
Exactly like millions and millions of normal Americans do every damn day of their lives?
Yay SEC officials for not being terrible as they normally are?

I will never forget that night or that day. It was truly unforgettable. Our tailgate that day was unreal, the close game, the epic ending and what transpired the rest of that night and the next morning.
Probably my "best" Auburn moment other than driving back from Glendale to Vegas to catch a 6:am flight with my wire only to land in a ice storm in Atlanta.
And I have been around longer than most here, not everyone but most. Since the mid 80's for me.
At that time, my seats were right behind Brandon Cox's seats for years and I loved talking to him during the games. Though that guy had the career he had, he was just a normal fan during that timeframe and he lost his fricking mind when Davis ran that ball back. It was awesome to see
