LSU had 8 possessions:
4 TDs
2 punts
1 INT
1 TO on Downs
Possessions are the most important thing imho other than points.
They ran 58 plays. Which means they scored 0.4828 points per play.
BAMA scored 0.6269 points per play (67 plays). BAMA had 11 possessions but 1 was 1 play right before half, and 1 was after LSU turned it over on Downs in the 4th qtr. There were 5 plays on those two truncated drives ( 1 rush before half, and 5 after the turnover on downs- 2 kneel downs).
If you subtract those 5 plays, BAMA avg'd 0.6774 points per play.
If BAMA can limit the opposition to 8 possessions or fewer, and avg 0.6774 points per play, it would be almost impossible to beat them. It would just about take a team scoring TDs every possession. Against our defense, I like those odds.
Even if the Defense gives up points, a great game plan is to limit big plays and make them run 8-9 plays to score. Any team that can sustain 14-16 play drives for TDs would be nearly impossible to beat unless the other team forced FGs. The new time rules have really changed the game.
Edit: BAMA also left 6 points on the field by missing two FGs by a usually reliable kicker.

It seems to me many coaches are still trying to adjust to the limited number of possessions teams get based on the new rules. I haven't compared versus previous years, but my gut tells me an average game would have 12 - 14 possessions per team.

I think you are off on the LSU possessions.
They had a missed FG and 2 TO on down for a total of 10 possessions.
but your point is taken.

It's interesting, but LSU's defense is sooooo bad. uK is 57 spots better nationally in total defense.
It's an early kick on the road in what could be a bit of a hangover game.
If Bama's O plays anywhere near as good as they did last Saturday, I think that bitch Hope will fully be back upon us.

You have to keep in mind matchups matter.
I think part of Bama’s plan was to run a lot to limit possession. They did that. Hit the plays they needed and controlled the clock for the most part.

I don't disagree. Their last 6 qtrs of offensive football have been very good.
Jalen trying not to deny himself to be something he isn't is huge. If they ran that Daniles option play, designed runs for Milroe, get the RBs the ball in space, and attack over the top with Jalen's deep ball, the whole world is ahead of them.
But, it's shaping up that they need style points and some outside help to ensure a spot in the CFPs
No matter what unfolds, very proud of what this team has done and the growth they've shown. Very resilient ball team that could have folded in on itself a few times, but didn't.

I agree. This team has mojo. If we win out and beat UGA I think one of the main teams drops something and we get in. Proud of these guys. They fight their arse off.

It felt to me as if the powers that be told Jalen to be a game "manager" for the first part of the season and finally decided to let him be a game "breaker" akin to his athleticism.
I was beyond thrilled to see him breaking yennessee and lsu hearts left and right...can't wait for the Iron Bowl.
