Targeting is a dumb rule. Targeting reviews stop the game and interrupt the flow of a game experience that’s already being butchered by tv commercials.
However, if we’re going to have a rule, it should be enforced in a relatively consistent manner. By the rules, the play appeared to be targeting. However, there was another play on the next drive by LSU which could have also been flagged for targeting, but wasn’t.
If we cannot get a consistent enforcement because the penalized behavior itself is simply too nebulous and difficult to ascertain, then the rule should not exist. However, if there is a rule, it should be enforced. The fact that it was not even reviewed, when there is a mechanism with multiple checks in place to make sure these sorts of things are reviewed, fuels the conspiratorial argument that Alabama consistently benefits from favorable treatment by officials.

This is the first logical response I've seen to any of these threads. Enforce it, or don't. Consistency is key.
Now you specifically cited two times where targeting could have occurred, and the officials were at least consistent in NOT calling it. And Brian Kelly did admit that the potential targeting on JD5 was reviewed...
