The Auburn vs Miss State game will determine which team is bowl eligible. It'll be the Bham Bowl so it might be good for Auburn to drop that game and avoid their third Bham Bowl bid.

I have been too depressed to look, but will the SEC actually put a team in Birmingham this year? Let's examine.

Georgia, Alabama, and Ole Miss or LSU will get New Year's 6 games.
Ole Miss or LSU to the Citrus Bowl.

Then you have the Bowl 6-pack

Florida, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas A&M are locked here. There is one more bid before you drop down a tier.

Here are the contenders

Mississippi State (4-3)
Auburn (3-4)
South Carolina (2-5)

Arkansas and Vanderbilt both have six losses with likely no path to get to 6-6. We can revisit them if they start winning.

South Carolina can actually only afford to lose one more - A&M, Kentucky and Clemson are still on the schedule.

Auburn can lose two more - they are likely going to end up 6-6 even if they lose to State.

So in this crazy season, the Mississippi State-Auburn game could be for the Las Vegas Bowl. Loser is headed to Birmingham. If both LSU and Ole Miss get NY6 games, there will be no one for Birmingham.

Bowl games are worth it for the additional practices. Doubt Hugh feels the same
