Herein lies the problem with today’s college basketball. A lot of these freshmen-Parker, Dioubate, Cosby -none of them will see major minutes once the competition picks up. Maybe even Walters as well. A couple of them probably hit the portal after the season. Then you have another set of transfers and freshmen next year. It’s almost if a freshmen isn’t good enough to be a major rotation/impact player from the jump, he’s almost worth not taking. The days of a kid staying 3-4 years and developing as he goes seem to be over. At least at the level we are trying to recruit/play at.

Oats calling out some guys in his press conference. He is not happy at all about the defense.
Sounds like Wague might get the start here soon which I am in favor of

#Alabama's Nate Oats on Nick Pringle: "He hasn't blocked a shot this season. He hasn't improved like we'd like to see. If he's going to be a rim protector, he needs to block shots."

Nate Oats called out freshmen Sam Walters and Davin Cosby for their defensive effort during the Indiana State game. He said newcomers will need to contribute on defense to see the court on this year's team.

There's no almost. That is 100% the current state of recruiting. There is absolutely no point in signing a player you are not confident will be able to contribute from day 1. Obviously there are going to be misevaluations and what not, but knowingly taking on true projects is a waste of time and resources in the current environment.
