Riley is a good coach, won’t win it all because zero commitment to defense (as evidenced by retaining Alex Grinch), but should be a perennial playoff team going forward.

OU fans have the redass about how he left, and I can’t blame them. I wouldn’t listen to most of their assessments of his ability though. There’s a very low chance that Venables will exceed Riley as a coach. Put another way, Riley is a better offensive coach than Venables is a defensive coach, recruiting is a push, and overall program management is TBD.

Venables defense is more proven than Riley’s offenses. Those defenses won multiple NCs at multiple programs. Also Venables is recruiting far better than Riley ever did. Have you seen OUs recruiting since 22? OU hasn’t landed 5 stars on defense like this since stoops first years.
