He went to Texas A&M before transferring to West Point...so, even when he lived there he wasn't a fan of Texas University.

Living in Texas, he would have learned about how some of their cities got their names like:

Houston - Named after Tennessean Sam Houston
Dallas - Named after George Dallas (vice president under Tennessean James Polk)
Garland - Named after US Senator Augustus Garland (born in Tennessee)
Denton - Named after Tennessean John B. Denton


I could go on...but I'll just leave it with this.

Can you explain how the origin of El Paso is Tennessean?
