we have about 72 threads on the Iron Bowl. I've always thought the Egg Bowl was one of the most underrated rivalries in football. Seems like there is some real 'hate' in this one.

Got a lot of good Ole Miss and Mississippi State posters here,so lets hear some.

If I remember correctly the late 90s or early 2000s produced some good games. In one of the games around that time MSU tied the game in the final minute. On the ensuing possession Ole Miss threw a pass instead of taking a knee, it was intercepted and MSU kicked the game winning fg on the next play.

What does the "egg bowl" actually mean?
(1) you EGG on your opponent?

(2) You throw rotton EGGS at your opponent?

(3) One opponent winds up with EGG on their face?

(4) or EGGACTLY all of the Above?

Wondering???

Egg bowl is called that because it is sponsored by the Miss. Egg producers. It used to be played at War Memorial Stadium in Jackson MS.

I always understood the Egg Bowl was called that because of the golden football on the trophy that looks like golden egg. The game used to be played in Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson.

The heartbreaker in 1997 was the toughest loss I have ever taken as an MSU fan. However, that just made the 17 point 4th quarter, comeback win in 2007 that much sweeter. I was there in person for both of them.

the 1999 egg bowl was the best one i've ever seen. the 1997 game was an awesome one to watch too even though we lost. still remember the big fight before the game.

nope. It's called the egg bowl because that is what footballs looked like back in the day.

But then integration happened and Ole Miss became irrelevant.

The 1983 Egg Bowl has to be the wackiest. State was lined up for winning field goal and the ball was placed, kick was long enough and accurate enough but prior to breaking the plane of the goal post, a wind blew the ball back and field goal was no good. Old and grainy but if you look real closely, you can see the ball blow back. 1983 Egg Bowl

That was amazing. Put Ole Miss in its first bowl since '71.

I could have sworn that the MS. Poultry/Egg Producers in the early 1980's made a big deal out of sponsoring the "Egg Bowl". I just remember it being a big deal at the time.

Maybe. But the game was named in 1927 and had no such sponsor.
