Downtown Atlanta is trashy. It’s arguably the trashiest major city in the South aside from New Orleans. The game needs to be moved to Nashville, Jacksonville, or Dallas. Maybe rotate those three.
Nashville is too small. You can stay in a 4 star hotel in Manhattan for less money than a motel 6 in Nashville costs. Nashville is a town, Atlanta is a city.
Dallas is the least interesting city in the Midwest. It has no character at all.
But the truth is in this person claiming Jacksonville would be less trashy than Atlanta. They either trolling or never been to Jacksonville….

Well ATL is certainly a 'travel hub' due to the airport but, there is VERY LITTLE as far as restaurant/bar/entertainment scene in the stadium vicinity
You must not have been there in the last 20 or 30 years.

Nope...2019 LSU vs. OK...blocks and blocks of offices and green spaces with few/no 'venues' for the fans...not even temporary entertainment sites with bands/food etc. !

That would be a Peach Bowl problem, not an Atlanta problem. Additionally, which hotel did you stay at?

There is some truth to the statement that there isn’t a bunch of restaurants and bars and entertainment that the fans would prefer near MB Stadium because the land is to valuable to buil an Applebees and a putt putt course in the area. I am certain that the MB area is daunting to rural southerners who are notoriously scared and narrow minded….however, walk into any of the 100s of high rise buildings within a few blocks of the stadium and you’ll find world class dining and bars aplenty….they will not be like the Chilis or Ruby Tuesdays back home but that’s the beauty of traveling….

It's a completely false statement. There's bars and restaurants all over the place around the stadium and hotels downtown. You are right it's not Applebee's.

There is some truth to this. I recently priced out a trip to Nashville for the UGA-Vandy game this year and room rates were insane if you wanted to be anywhere near walking distance to any of the "cool stuff".

Umm.
As someone who made the 26 hour round-trip drive to Atlanta in 2014…I’m going to go ahead and say the 6 hour drive to Nashville would have been just *slightly* more convenient……just a wild thought there through.

The point should be to locate the SECCG in a more central location or at least rotate it geographically. ATL is not a central location for our 16 teams.

I gave you Nashville and counted you in the Nashville category. No need to debate, though I could.
ETA- KC is only 12 hours from ATL. And 8 hours from Nashville. It's a long drive either way. And I bet flights are cheaper to ATL from KCI than to Nashville. Hell I bet you have to connect in ATL just to get from KCI to Nashville.

Here's facts-
For the last 20 years, here are the opponents in the SEC CG.
Next to their names, is my judgement on whether or not Atlanta is convenient as a venue, as opposed to Nashville.
Georgia - Convenient
LSU - Draw

Alabama - Convenient

Of the 40 teams who have participated in the SECCG over the last 20 years, four teams could have considered Nashville to be more convenient.

Uh....what?
You have one of the largest aquariums in the world, the College Football Hall of Fame, the Children's Museum, the Skyview, the Sweet Auburn District, and a shite ton of dining options (both cheap and upscale) well within walking distance of the stadium.

Texas don’t have to worry about making the drive unless they’re attending as fans

kansas City is a jayhawk infested Big 12 town.

If you can make Nashville in 6 hours, you don't live in kC. Not possible.
I live in CoMo and I'm kicking butt to make it in 6 1/2 hours.

You have to keep in mind that a sizeable number of SEC fans who will travel to the SECCG are middle aged and middle class folks from the south. Many are from the rural south and all of them who do not reside in Atlanta, Miami or Charlotte are from towns, not cities. They are accustomed to driving to national chains for dinner out and aren’t overly adventurous when it comes to traveling….the kind of people who go to Europe and see 5 cities in 9 days….and probably bitch and moan about it the whole time. There is PLENTY to do within walking distance of MB stadium and MARTA can whisk you away to more bars and restaurants and entertainment venues than you could visit in a lifetime within 3 stops in any direction from CNN. Atlanta is a city….it is not possible that a city the size of Atlanta can cater to the whims of people who think Nashville or Birmingham or New Orleans is the big city. A city requires being bold….often times you may be uncomfortable…god forbid you may find yourself face to face with someone who talks differently or looks differently. You have to seek the things you’re looking for…there is not going to be a mall with blazing signs from national chains because the people who live and run businesses in a city, not a town, do not have time to concern themselves with ensuring a middle aged couple from Shreveport are comfortable. Atlanta is internationally recognized as one of the top travel destinations in the world by people who aren’t middle aged middle class southerners…. the SECCG provides those people a chance to see and do things they can’t at home, surrounded by people just like them. Many are too vapid and narrow minded to take advantage of the opportunity and walk away mad because there wasn’t an Olive Garden in the stadium parking lot. Dallas and Houston offer the same…they ain’t going to be happy in either because it is not what they know

They should make a rule that the previous years winner gets to pick the next host spot. So it will be staying in Atlanta fir a while. :-)
