NBA Draft - College basketball

50% of the top 10 draft picks didn’t come from college teams. From one and done to none and done seems to be trend.
Last year, 90% came from college programs. 70% in 2021.
Will these leagues (G league minimum $40k salary) help or hurt college basketball?

Why is this a question?
Do you think McDonalds would be more or less profitable if Burger King didn't exist?

Yeah, have to admit, as a college basketball fan I don't like this trend, but it's certainly becoming more enticing to these kids who've devoted most of their lives to the sport and don't care about school.
Wembanyama is also the first top pick since 2006 who didn't play high school or college basketball in the U.S.

From a simple picture, this is why basketball sucks, lmao

There’s no place like home, and Gradey Dick sent some love to his home state on Thursday night at the NBA Draft.
The former University of Kansas star wore a ruby-red jacket bedazzled with sequins in homage to Dorothy’s slippers in The Wizard of Oz, telling reporters it was a nod to his home state and alma mater.
“I’m from Kansas, she’s from Kansas,” Dick said, according to The Associated Press. “She’s got her slippers, I have my coat.”

Couldn’t he have just worn some ruby red loafers with his suit? That is just beyond awful.

I’m good with the rise of minor leagues. Let the one and dones go chase money so we can get back to some kind of team continuity in the college game.

Yeah, the mixed one-and-done college/pro system in basketball kind of sucks though, IMO.
Sort of wish they'd do this with football, but with a clear "pro or college" delineation.
Just let the kids choose to go professional out of high school and get paid, or go to college and earn a scholarship — but not both.
Of course (as I believe we've discussed), this will never happen, because it would require the NFL to form a G League type semi-pro entity that would involve them spending money, instead of the current system where they get all of their player development for free.

The NFL’s need to keep this current system propped up is a very underrated point IMO.

Yeah, they certainly have no incentive to change. I mean I wouldn't, if I had a vested interest.
But as a college fan, I'd love to see it.
I think you're right about the basketball side too. Letting the one-and-dones chase the money (out of high school) would still leave plenty of talent in the college game and lead to better team continuity, or at least I think it would.

I would say it can’t make it worse, but we all know how that ends…

Some college teams pay several hundred thousand for each player and even over a million if he's elite.

This all started because they NBA decided to not have a college requirement out of greed.
There was always plenty of talent in colleges to fuel NBA. The one and done and no college should have never happened.
Now, you have the G leagues, NBA Prep schools and other leagues around the world.
*Personally I think NBA is not at all entertaining.

Certain teams are. But, yeah, you have to wade through a LOT of bad basketball.
