s.e.c.? It appears the s.e.c. is top heavy this year. Florida appears to be the class of the league. Bama, a sound/solid football team. Georgia, average, l.s.u. average, ole miss average, everone else, not very good.
The combine record of the teams bama has faced are 56-67.
The four teams they have played with a winning record, Georgia, 41-30. Kentucky 17-14. ole miss, 24-20. L.s.u. 27-21 in o.t. (is that really dominate? does he win these four next year w/o his qb?)
This "perception" of saban is amazing to me. He is one of four teams returning their starting qb.
Could he be having success, this year, due to a very good offensive line recruited 3 & 4 years ago by shula? A senior qb, recruited by shula, a senior safety, recruited by shula, senior punter and field goal kicker, recruited by shula.
My point is, since this player development issue has come up, will he be 11-0 when Parker wilson, cody, andrea smith, rashard johnson, javier arenas, and antoine caldwell are all gone? What direction will his program be heading?
I guess if he developed these guy's in two years than Houston nutt is doing something he couldn't do, develop players in one year.
do i think he's a bad coach? no. Do i think he is the best coach? no. He's a quality coach, just like ours. He's going to have good seasons and rebuilding seasons, just like ours. He's up today, rebuilding tomorrow.

Possibly, but if that is the case, LSU must really suck this year.

Could not agree more.

Could LSU's success last year be a result of college football as a whole being down???
2 loss national champ winning it against an extremly overrated OSU team?
My point is that it doesn't matter. If you win, you win. Up or down, no one gives a crap. Who wins is the only thing people will remember and it's the only thing that counts.

Lots of parity last year throughout the top teams in the nation. This year the SEC is just bad.

UGA is 9-2, how is that average?

There were embarrassed by the two best teams they played.

So if UGA finishes the year 10-2, that's average?

Like it or not they (Bama) have taken care of buisness without faltering. I find that the SEC is very competitive versus being down. I doubt that if the season were to start over and replayed we would have the same results, so qudos to the Tide for their spectacular run. My advice to LSU is look and learn, they have done this with much leas talent and a lot les selfishnes with a ton of focus and determination.

Down year for the SEC and UGA got knocked out by the two above-average teams they played. Which games jump out at you here?

UGA isn't an elite team, but they're definitely good. Were you calling LSU average when they went 10-2 the past 2 years in the regular season?

and we'll possibly be 9-3 this season but doesn't make us a good team. how many sec teams are ranked this year from last year is a better question.

Sure they are good, but it is hard to call them anything but "average" after the two quality teams on their schedule ran them out of the stadium.
Look at LSU's schedules from the past three years...look at UGA's this year. There is a difference.

or there is the possibility that georgia's 9-2 record is because the SEC is down just like the topic of the thread describes. georgia is a good team this year but hardly overimpressive with a 9-2 record after looking at some of their recent games. getting totally destroyed by florida and barely hanging on against auburn is not going to raise any eyebrows.

UGA hasn't beaten anyone. they got their arse kicked by the 2 best team they played. im still trying to figure out why they're ranked so high.

Yes, to the original poster.
And, yes, to this.
All you can do, is play with what you got, against who they give you.
You could say the same about Bama's '92 Title.

A down year in the west in particular. What have bama's east opponents been? Georgia, but not Florida. The rest are irrelevant.

Senior leadership/maturity goes a long way in keeping the team mentally prepared for each game. We saw this in 2003 with Mauck/Lavalais and last year with Flynn/Dorsey/Steltz, and poor senior leadership in 2004/2008. Regarding Bama, Saban preaches taking ownership in everything you do, but it's the seniors that have to carry this out. Bama has a good core of senior leaders this year. Every SEC champ in recent history has had good upperclassmen leaders on the team. It's hard to go the distance without them, no matter how many 4 and 5 stars are on the roster.
