I'll clarify for everyone scratching their heads on this thread; they are quoting lyrics from a song called 'Waitin Around to Die' by a famous songwriter named Townes Van Zandt. He wrote some pretty well known songs back in the day. His most famous was probably 'Pancho and Lefty', the big hit duet song by Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson.

It's kind of ironic but for all the great songs he wrote my favorite Townes song is his stripped down, desolate take on the Stones' Dead Flowers that plays over the closing credits of The Big Lebowski.
