Georgia is hard to get into
Because of limited in state options. The state has decent specialties but limited quality public undergrad schools. Your options are UGA, GCSU, Sa Southern, Georgia ST, and Augusta St. Pretty much the rest is 2 year stuff or specialized/post grad stuff. So it’s not that standards are high, it’s the the competition is stiff.
I went to GCSU because of better scholarships than UGA. The only advantage to a UGA degree is networking in Georgia. Outside that it’s the same as all but Augusta State(that one helps you get into MCG easier).

Of course you're in a UGA thread, how shocking.

You are proof of the inferiority of a GCSU education. Anyone who truly believes that there is no difference between a UGA degree and one from Augusta or GCSU is too dumb to even get into AU
Georgia is a public Ivy.
GCSU is a school that students who couldn’t get into W Georgia or Georgia Technical College type schools go to.

You forgot Mercer, KSU, Berry, West Georgia, Valdosta State, Oglethorpe, Reinhart, etc. There are plenty of non-specialized Universities in the state of Georgia. That is not counting the plethora of HBCUs that are some of the finest in America.
The reason that UGA is difficult to get into is because of the lottery-based scholarships that are available, thus sending more kids to college who would never have had the chance tens of years ago. That has driven up the requirements to get into state schools.
