That never was, nor will it ever be, a possibility. Over 80% of that rivalry was played with the teams in different conferences. They'd make it work no matter who ended up where. The failed Big XII financial experiment just made the scheduling a bit more convenient in some ways. That's it.

Was never a possibility. If we'd gone to the SEC back then, we still would have had that rivalry game on both our schedules. Even Boren, as big of an idiot as he was in this regards, understood this. I think his mistake was thinking that the OUT package being in the same conference was somehow linked to the importance of that game to both programs. He was wrong. It's a nice-to-have at best.

A&M thought the same thing with their rivalry game with tu. The donghorn AD was so butthurt over A&M leaving that he chose not to continue the game.
