Director of talent has his eyes set on ATHENS . I must say never been a huge NFL guy but I like the eagles direction.

Also tend to just follow UGA players rather than care that much about an individual NFL team. However, I don’t see how people can look at the draft history the past !20 years! and not realize the Falcons are actively trying NOT to draft a star player from UGA. They will occasionally take a late draft pick that will likely barely make the team or be practice squad, and I am pretty sure they are just doing that to be able to point to it when asked. I would love for an actual sports journalist (which I get they don’t exist anymore) to really have the organization answer why that is the philosophy. If they believe in it, they should be willing to explain it.

It can be true that Georgia fans are being too sensitive about this trend, while also being true that the Falcons are actively making dog shite draft picks with a solid Dawg alternative available/taken a few picks after ATL's. Is it intentional? No, but just indicative of how dog shite our front office is.
I mean, it's a little strange when the Falcons move to draft a LB and they go with some scrub with good testing numbers from Montana State, over Nakobe fricking Dean.
Really would have been cool to see Todd Gurley on the team that lost SB 51... Not like Vic Beasely (taken a few before Todd) ever did anything worth a shite for us. You'd have to imagine Todd's abilities would have been priceless in that offense in 2016/17.
The Falcons need to build their roster how they see fit, but it's funny to see an actual Super Bowl contender (Philly) take such an interest in the players from a program barely an hour away from Flowery Branch. But the Falcons seemingly forget about the NFL Factory over in Athens.

To be fair, that team doesn't get to the Super Bowl without Beasley. That was his one actual productive season.
I think the Falcons do avoid Georgia players in some instances for the same reasons the Saints would avoid LSU players. Some of those guys need to be far, far away from their hometowns.

Nakobe barely saw the field last year and Troy Anderson, the scrub from Montana State, started the last 5 games and ended up w/40 tackles.

Maybe that is because Nakobe Dean was on a team with something worth playing for while Atlanta was once again in scrub season.
As I said in the first post. At this point it has to be mostly intentional. That is fine. But just own it rather than pussyfooting around it. I mean I get it if they want to have their own identity, and I get it if they are concerned about specific players, but in the end an organization that has never won shite is just making it easier for a good number of the local football fan base to be more interested in rival teams. But hey, at least they actually sent more than a 3rd rate scout to UGA’s pro day this year.

Now that I can agree with. It is never smart to underestimate the power of just plain ineptitude. This has probably changed the world more than actual intent (good or bad).
More than whiny, I am intrigued by their reasoning which I really do think is about establishing their own identity in a CFB town. They have no problem with former GA players in later free agency which makes sense in this context. Those players for the most part aren’t really closely associated with UGA by that time.

This has nothing to do with anything. The Falcons play in Atlanta, not Athens. I do think they've passed on some Georgia players over the years who they felt needed to be far away from home, but it's just stupid to say they pass on Georgia players because they're trying to "establish themselves." They're a fricking NFL franchise, and not a new one. They don't need to "establish themselves."
Also, you can pretty easily identify who has never been to Philadelphia and spent time around Eagles fans in threads like this.

Taking Shaffer over Salyer was as bad a move as I've ever seen in my lifetime.
There is absolutely zero justification for that move. Absolutely incompetent and any faith any fan has in the front office should be burned immediately.

Coming off an injury in the off-season, while on a defense loaded to the gills with front 7 talent. They made the right call by letting him take the year to acclimate to the NFL and their system.

Because of the situation... The Falcons had to throw him in there. Nakobe's career will easily surpass anything Anderson will do. I say that as an observer of talent, not as a Georgia fan.
