How are they going to score points?

If creating new threads was scoring touchdowns, you would be better than early 90s OC Dan Reeves.

Been a lot of talk about actually playing another team in the spring instead of the current model. Trying to put on a show for the fans while also having a meaningful practice in weather like we had in the area this past Saturday is a fool's errand. With the limited number or practices and contact mandated it is a bad idea to miss an opportunity to do the work so the fans can have an opportunity to see an intersquad scrimmage...had it not been for the fans being there Auburn would have no doubt moved indoors. Having a real game scheduled instead would at least give you an opportunity to work in harsh conditions...programs ought to dial back the spring game idea...

With the game going to all out buying players, many programs are going to have to do everything they can to keep fan enthusiasm up. It is a game. Eventually, college football will have to remember that.

Auburn fans can’t be serious if your QB is Ashford or TJ. I’d be surprised if they win more than 6

Same way they did Saturday, touchdowns and field goals.

Ashford will be fine under Freeze. TJ won't be in Auburn for long.

Well, you are mentally retarded, so I guess I'll pencil in 10 wins

early 90s OC Dan Reeves

On a serious note, I was searching for something witty to post about ol' Dan and just realized he passed away last year — I guess I missed that news somehow.

quote:

Dan Reeves, who won a Super Bowl as a player with the Dallas Cowboys but was best known for a long coaching career highlighted by four more appearances in the title game with the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons, died Saturday [January, 2022]. He was 77.

A statement released by his family through former Falcons media relations director Aaron Salkin said Reeves died of complications from dementia.

Reeves came to South Carolina in 1961 from Americus High School in Americus, Ga. He was a three-year starter at quarterback for the Gamecocks from 1962-64. At the end of his collegiate career, Reeves was the leading passer in Gamecock history.

In 1977, he was inducted into the University of South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame.

Dan Reeves was one of nine coaches in NFL history to win 200 games, including the playoffs. He also won Coach of the Year honors with the Falcons and Giants and was one of six coaches to win the award with multiple franchises.

Just 37 when he took over as coach of the Broncos in 1981, he built a team around quarterback John Elway that made three Super Bowl appearances over his 12-year tenure. But Denver never won a title under Reeves, getting blown out in all three of its trips to the title game.

After a bitter parting from the Broncos, Reeves moved to New York to coach the Giants in 1993.

He was fired after four seasons but quickly caught on in 1997 with the Falcons, a homecoming for the man from Georgia who grew up in Americus. In just his second season with a franchise that had experienced little success, Reeves guided a team known as the “Dirty Birds” to a 14-2 record in the regular season and the Falcons’ first trip to the Super Bowl. Reeves again came up short of a championship, losing to Elway and the Broncos, which left him 0-4 as a Super Bowl coach.

He ended his coaching career with a record of 190-165-2.

He was a good one back in that era.
