The facility 'arm's race' is neverending, with schools spending tons of money to have the biggest and nicest weightrooms, stadiums, etc.
I've never been able to tour my school or any other school's athletic facilities, so I'm unable to give you a proper response.

You mean in a day and age of youtube and social media, you've never seen any videos on your school's facilities? Heck, I've never seen the Butt's-Mehre building (UGA's fitness complex) but there's all kinds of videos, professional and amateur alike, on youtube about it.
