You never have to incriminate yourself by talking to the police, but lying to them, under certain circumstances, can be obstruction.

How the Hell does the OP think any crime will ever be solved, if every yahoo with a childish sense of humor is allowed to lie to the police and send them down pointless rabbit trails, just for the immature "lulz."

Even worse, imagine all the people who would 'sic the cops on people that they just don't like ... with complete lies about that person.

FFS, some people are so fricking stupid that they need to be reminded to breathe.
