I remember watching it on ESPN that night.

I believe GOAT broadcaster Ron Franklin was on the call.

We walked by the Barn on our way to the game and were running late. I remember seeing the grill up against the building because it was next to a truck like mine. Our seats were in the West stands and as soon as we got in them, we saw the smoke, then the flames.

The Barn was a WWII Army Air Corp surplus hanger. It was built of heart pine. I don't think he dump coals, but rather there were paint cans stacked up and the fumes ignited and then it just went up in a hurry.

After the war, a lot of these Army surplus hangers and quonset huts and other surplus buildings were sent to colleges around the country and used for various uses.

Auburn played basketball in that building before Beard-Eaves was built in 1969. There were two others on campus. We lived in a quonset hut on LSU's campus when my dad was in school.

I saw Pistol Pete play in there.
