Stricklin*

And no he won't, because everyone involved can use the excuse of "well we're in the middle of upgrading the facilities and getting a pitching lab and all this other stuff so let's wait and see how he does once he's got all that"

As long as stricklin is our coach it proves we don't REALLY care about getting to, or even winning games in, omaha. Which is surprising considering how much of a home run Brooks has been on just about everythign else (gymnastics excluded)

I kind of think we have fallen off everywhere but football short of maybe the new basketball hires.

I’m actually going to say yes. With the unknowns and our schedule, this could be disastrous. What better way for Brooks to welcome new facilities, than with a great hire to show the commitment in baseball.

But, if our pitching somehow shows out and Stricklin gets these boys to a 2 seed with this schedule, he stays

Hope Stricklin proves me wrong

I feel bad for him because everything was setting up for him to make a big CWS run in 2020 before the season got canceled.

That said, yeah it's probably time. He has only made the tournament 3 times in 8 seasons and has yet to even get to a Super Regional.

Do we need fresh blood? Yeah.

But it’s going to depend on fundraising and stability usually elicits donors following through on pledges, nevermind that regardless of HC we need money flowing into the facility first before buying out contracts. Improved facility puts us in the market for a better HC

Yeah, no.

Especially since Josh has been AD.

It's certainly a possibility. But until we commit to baseball it won't matter. There is no reason whatsoever for UGA to be a middle-tier baseball program. Kirby knew what it took to win and demanded it before he accepted the job. Results speak for themselves. UGA baseball is like CMR era football. If you don't fully commit to greatness you can't expect success vs. those who are fully committed. Getting out classed by Miss State, Ole Miss, UT, etc is unacceptable imo.

Our athletic department has been very profitable over the years largely due to football so it's easy to understand the investment in football versus other sports.
We made what most consider a good investment in basketball in hiring Mike White. Only time will tell if that and other investments in basketball facilities leads to profitability in basketball.
And yes, will need to make a similar investment in baseball to become competitive in all 3 of the major sports.
For example, LSU baseball made a profit of 1.5 million last year but they are the exception rather than the rule.

LSU also has the benefit of the majority of their state population living along I-10 and in relatively close proximity to BR while also lacking a big professional spring sports draw a la the Braves. Their run in the 90s created a ground swell of passion for the program that they’ve done a great job of managing since.

Georgia needs to focus on engaging its students in the baseball product. It’s a nostalgic sport to begin with, need to cultivate nostalgia to generate an alumni base that will be willing to spend on season tickets/club seating later on (which is why acting adversely toward Kudzu Hill was yet another galatically stupid, short sighted move on the part of McGarity).

That’s why I’ve been beating the drum for years on moving the scoreboard to left center and developing a large, general seating area for students in right (similar to what Ole Miss and even Bama have created for their students) at the base of the houses in Kudzu hill. Give the students a space of their own to be rowdy, drink beer, and have fun. Anyone who participated in the greenhouse in the 2000s during our super regional runs knows how epic those days and nights were. You’ve got to build a space that makes that kind of vibe possible during regular season SEC series every year

Serving Beer at Foley could fix the issue with students, but they need a promotions department like AA-AAA ball clubs.

I rarely missed a game in my time in Athens, its a bargain. Someone could simply show the difference between a Pro Sports outing for a family of 4 and a trip to foley. My Guess is $350-400 versus about $100....

They should run UGA baseball as if its the local AAA club for Athens.

Honestly believe it has never been properly promoted even when good.

Foley actually serves beer as of last year.

They don’t do a great job of promoting it, agreed, but part of that starts with the fan experience just not being that great because the stadium isn’t that great. Most seats are in the sun, the concourses are small, there’s not a lot of room to get up and move around or explore the park (like you might at a Braves game). The scoreboard is - I believe - just the old 2005 era Sanford Stadium scoreboard cut in half and isn’t used to great effect; it needs different dimensions and to be relocated for ease of viewing. Matthew Kaminski comes and does the organ most weekends which is pretty cool and unique to most parks. Logan Booker does a good job as the PA. All the in-game promotions are pretty lame and run by Sport Management interns. They do some pretty cool giveaways throughout the season but they barely promote when those are going to take place.

Just a lot of potential left on the table for what could/should be the premier sports program of the UGA Spring calendar

I have been to almost every MLB stadium, most NFL stadiums, several college stadiums.

I go for the game not the stadium, I want good concessions and reasonable prices, reasonable entry and bathroom lines.

You’re also clearly a fan of baseball. I make and update a thread following a mediocre college program every season.

We aren’t the target. I can and have written to McGarity and Brooks with my complaints and wishes. And they’re nice about it but we know that 1. I’m going to show up regardless and 2. If I was as serious as I claimed to be, I’d be including a nice donation in the name of my cause along with the message.

The family of 4 looking for something to do one April weekend and the student from New Jersey who is bored now that the football mania they came to Athens for has died down are the targets of which there are way more of them than there are people like you and me. And for them, experience is everything.

We agree, i actually dont care for MLB but customer outings or something to do while on the road is how I have been to so many. Walked up one day at the Rockies Stadium and bought a ticket two rows behind homeplate, of course nobody was there. If I lived closer i would go to about every dogs game, any sport.

Also been to alot of single A and Minnesota Lights league games. Great value.

I really wish we would tear foley down and start over, one to get rid of the glass behind home plate, what idiot thought that was a good idea? Looks awful on tv. Inwould build out the footprint and have 10,000 seats with boxes.

Two, think we should build a retro stadium with large awning style over hangs.

The crown Prince of half assing all projects and hires that weren’t forced on him by competent donors

Fan experience is what brings people back. I attended a game at GA Southern with a big group and we rented the upper deck patio on the 3rd base side. It was awesome! Something like that in the outfield to be rowdy, watch the game with a big group if desired would be awesome. Even if you weren't on Kudzu Hill, it was fun to watch what was going on out there. Shame they got rid of it. GO DAWGS!!

Some of my fondest memories from college were up at the green house during the 2008 postseason. A young WG is in this photo:

It really shoudl be punishable by incarceration how badly Adams and mcgarity, mostly adams, neutered any semblance of fun back in those days (not just baseball but overall) all in the name of alcohol avoidance.

Was it the game where the NCAA disallowed walk up music but the guys up at the house in right field blared it anyway? That did in the hill?
