I see the Steele and Armstrong hires as similar to what Georgia is doing with Muschamp/Schumann. I know Armstrong doesn't have the co-dc tag yet but pairing an experienced DC with an up and comer guy seems similar.

Steele did shepherd Smart in 2007 before stepping aside in 2008 with Smart becoming DC. Saban has been trying to recreate that magic.

Pete Golding's early years mirror Smart a lot, he just kinda plateaued at Bama. Unfortunately his "veteran presence" at Co-DC was a glorified bagman in Lupoi.

He was a good DC, he couldn't really push beyond that when it was needed...
