I think the reason a few of the teams have not named a HC is because of the coaches that were still in the last 4 teams.

If he gets the job, he will be the reason I become a Texans fan for the second time.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he traded for Jimmy G and drafted Anderson with the 2nd overall pick.

Jimmy is a free agent and Ryans isn't, at least I hope, not planning on tying the fate of his first head coaching position to Jimmy G being his starter after seeing him in Frisco.

I thought Jimmy had one more year on his SF contract. My bad.
If I’m Ryans and I can’t get Bryce I’m taking Anderson and shooting for Caleb Williams. I would not want to hitch my wagon to another underdeveloped passer from Ohio St that struggles with progressions in the NFL.

Lovie Smith really F'ed them by winning the last meaningless game and losing the #1 pick. That's what you get for hiring an old NFL retread.

They could still move up to #1...not sure what it'd cost them. Other teams like Indy will be looking to move up for a QB as well.

Better to draft OL or trade for more picks. Drake Maye would be a target in next draft.

Demeco might not want to start his tenure off with a bridge QB. If you have a top 3 draft pick and need a QB, you probably need to take it. I guess it depends on what you think of Young and Stroud as franchise QBs though. Houston has two Top 12 picks I believe this year. Houston right now won't be a magnet for elite FAs so they'd better nail the draft.

I'd go QB and then an OT to pair with LT with their two first rounders. Lots of needs, that's why it's a rebuild, but that would be a good foundation to start with. Of course Demeco is a defensive guy so who knows.

Demeco Ryans was a great player and scholar athlete. Here’s a throwback article from his time at Bama that features a quote from one of my former professors.

LINK

I’m not surprised he’s an elite coach.

quote:

Ryans' teammates call him "coach," a teasing measure of respect for an upperclassman who demands that the players who locker near him throw their used athletic tape in the garbage can, not on the floor. "I tell them to pick the stuff up off the floor," Ryans said. "I tell them what to do most of the time. I just let them know, tape and stuff on the floor, pick it up and save that janitor or manager the trouble of doing it."

He is a student that professors pine for. He is a model citizen. "I love him like my son," said Kines, a bagel of a football coach -- crusty on the outside, soft and warm underneath. "He's what college football is supposed to be about."

But if you think Ryans the person is impressive, wait until you see him play. If you can't find No. 35, just look for the ball. Ryans won't be far away. He has made 59 tackles, which leads a defense that is first in the nation in points allowed (8.2 per game) and ranks no lower than seventh nationally in the major defensive statistical categories.
