Man, who gives a frick about this?

Jalen Hurts did not play for either school because he loved them. He played because he felt they gave him the best opportunity to be successful. And he probably played for Saban and Riley more than UA and OU.

This is the reason fans hate NIL and the transfer portal. They desperately want players to love the program like they do instead of playing for money or opportunity.

But the reality is fan love for players and player love for fans is all extremely superficial and conditional. Even more so for coaches.

The players and coaches are all mercenaries looking out for their own self-interests, and you’re all spectators in the Colosseum with your thumbs down for a death blow when one of them doesn’t live up to expectations.

One of the most true and profound posts I’ve seen at this place.

The reality IMO of why fans despise NIL is that college football fans in a way not seen in other sports fandoms think they have an ownership stake in the deal and think they should take precedence and be predominant in the equation, not the players, because “they are the ones who pay the bills.”

That ain’t happening, at least not to the extent they desire/demand, moving forward, if it ever really happened before.

Flame away …
