There’s no simple mathematics to it. I wouldn’t count Tennessee out. Heupel, for all the jokes and what not thrown his way, is a terrific coach. They won’t be pushovers. How is Georgia automatically better when losing Ringo, Carter, Washington, Bennett, among others? Bennett, while not as talented as other high end starters, was terrific in Kirby’s system. Having five stars does not always translate and that doesn’t only apply to A&M. Every major program has flops.

Alabama returns some crucial players despite their losses. LSU is returning a majority of their impact players and like Georgia and Alabama, will be a legitimate contender. Writing off Tennessee, Alabama, and to a lesser extent, LSU, while assuming Florida State makes the final, is sort of a wild jump. Florida State’s hype all of a sudden, might make them one of the more disappointing teams next season should they lose on a few occasions, because Norvell isn’t proven, yet.

We return 15 starters.
Our true freshmen have been playing elite. Given an offseason, they can make a huge jump towards all conference.

Bill Connely is big on returning receiving production. UGA returns about 75% production and added the best receivers from Miss St and Missouri.

Go back and watch the 2nd half of the Natty. UGA defense had a bunch of Freshman in there on defense laying waste to TCU offense.

Bear Alexander - DT
Jalon Walker - OLB
Mykal Williams - DE

All 3 of those are stars and only Mykal played a meaningful role for most of the season. Linebackers are best in college football (Mondon/Dumas-Johnson) and Malachi Starks is freak safety and also a Freshman starter all last year.

There was a slight dropoff on defense from 2021-2022. There won’t be a dropoff from 2022-2023 there. To me, the most difficult replacements will be Ringo(CB) and Chris Smith(S).

UGA’s recruiting has been so good on defense and the coaching is so good that there just isn’t a dropoff. LSU just cannot match up - no doubt LSU has talent but not at the level of UGA - maybe in a few years but not right now. It took a few years for UGA to catch Bama and it will take a few years for LSU to get close to UGA - it won’t happen in 2023 - it just won’t.

LSU needs to worry about Bama, not UGA.
LSU got smoked by VOLS and AGGIES
You ain’t there yet - Purdue sucks.

Offense should be a better supporting cast for whomever is the starting QB - better overall WR room as well. Darnell Washington exits but here comes Oscar Delp as TE#2 to pair with Bowers. RBs will be deeper in 2023 than 2022.

Embarrassment of Riches.
