They take so long to ever hand out punishment that the uncertainty just leaves people and programs hanging with a cloud over them.

Agreed, and they need to be called to the carpet on this crap. If they can't beef up their staff and resources to complete investigations and rule on a case within 12 months of its inception, then dissolve the entire organization and put the onus on each individual conference to monitor their own programs.

In addition to that, if you're going to give someone a show-cause pentalty who has been out of coaching since the allegations they are being punished for have come to light, the show-cause needs to give credit for time served so to speak. Donnie Tyndall had been out of coaching for a year before the NCAA gave him the 10 year show-cause, but because of the limbo, it will be a de facto 11 year show-cause.
