During the Tuesday morning press conference, someone asked Kirby if or how Stsetson’s story and success and how he almost got away might have changed the way he evaluates QBs going forward.

To Kirby’s credit, he was very honest. He said that Stetson’s mobility and all that such a thing brings with it for opposing defenses has probably made him put more of a premium on mobility going forward at that position

Questions after hearing this:

-how are Beck and Vandagriff and the other fellow in terms of mobility?
-if its lacking, does Kirby pull a more mobile QB out of the portal?

Personally, i think 100%, we’re gonna have a transfer in the mix for the starting job next year

In terms of just straight speed it goes Vandagriff, Stockton, Beck, but I do think Stockton is quicker than Vandagriff and Stockton is a more natural runner in regards to running as the QB. Beck is the slowest but he’s not Hutson Mason or Grayson Lambert. He can move pretty decently.

Vandagriff and Gunner are both mobile. Gunner is the future.

All 3 of the QBs in the room are mobile. Brock and Gunnar came in as dual threat guys and Beck although not known for his mobility has shown it when he has played.

If Kirby does decide to shop the portal, like he did last year and years previously, and like he will this year I believe, does any available QB out there grab your eye? As someone that could fit our new system and philosophy perfectly?

Three years ago, Kirby thought JT Daniels was a good idea, but now his philosophy has shifted. JT was added the same year as some in our stable were added.

Agree with all this. Portal QB is not necessary IMO.

It will be interesting to see how the QB situation plays out.
Beck looks comfortable in Monken's offense and has a powerful accuracy.
Vandagriff has all the measurables but came from a small private school so it is reasonable to wonder how he will adjust to much higher-level SEC competition.
Stockton at 6'1" 220lb has decent height and speed and the weight to be able to take some punishment running the ball in gritty situations.
My guess is Stockton is closer to the Bennett type player favored by Monken.

I don't think any 5 star high profile QB will want to come to Georgia knowing that they would have to sit for a year to learn Monken's system and earn playing time.
We don't need a repeat of the Justin Fields situation.

Gooooo Dawgs!!

Anyone think the playing time Beck got was so he could audition for a portal team? I have always liked Beck, but I think the two others might be next years QB.

I think it is a crapshoot.

Aaron Murray is sky high on Beck. Always has been.

The question on Beck is handling pressure. Identifying presnap. And improvising post snap.
7 on 7 studs can crumble under the pressure and hurt the team more than help it.

If he can handle it, I think he holds onto the job.

Gunner has impressed on the scout team. He has outperformed Vandagriff in that role from 2021.
But gunner has to learn the offense.
And vandagriff as a true freshman doesn't matter (did Joe Burrow 2015 matter? 2016? Hell no). Vandagriff just needs to keep climbing to his potential. Who cares where he started out of high school if he can max out.

I’m not sure if it is either. Have no idea. But past history would say that it’s coming.

I guess if they don’t even try to court someone out of the portal though, assuming we would even now about it, then that’s got to be a really good sign right? About how they feel about the three fellows they’ve got. Because they’ve brought someone in or tried to every other year so far just about

In a situation where you're making a run at a championship, Beck is absolutely the guy you want to go with, God forbid Stet had gotten hurt. The CFP semis are not the time to break in a new QB (unless you're Tua, apparently). The decision to continue to go with Beck was the right one at the time. His longer time in the program would've been needed had his number gotten called with a game still in the balance.

All that said, I don't see his being the guy by the time the meat of the schedule begins in October.

I'm leaning Stockton, if for the fact that he stepped up to take the licks as scout team QB headed into the TCU game. Call it an intangible.

I’m not saying he’s definitely leaving, im just saying I don’t expect any QB transfers until the after spring practice window when they’ve had a chance to mini audition for the job.
