Saw this info earlier - apparently four of the scariest injuries ever in the NFL have happened on the same field.
Hamlin's injury isn't due to turf, but still.
It is interesting to note that Paycor Stadium was deemed one of the most unsafe fields by the NFL Player Association back in November:

I’ve read that the Bengals owner is a cheap bastard. Are there different qualities of turf?

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere. He basically died and was brought back to like but is still in critical condition. Similar to what happened to Mike Leach?

I keep searching for the latest on Hamlin. This sucks.

Hamlin's injury wasn't related to the turf, just a very sad coincidence that it happened on that field that already contained three of the scariest injuries to happen in the NFL already.

I won't pretend to be an expert, but this is what was in the article:
quote:
Slit film turf "has statistically higher in-game injury rates compared to all other surfaces," Tretter said. Other than slit film, there is monofilament and dual fiber turfs. Monofilament turf is single blades of grass, whereas slit film includes slits in the individual blades.

one of the more interesting tweets about what could have happened to Hamlin was from Jerry Lawler. Jerry had a storyline at a PPV where a performer brought him into the ring and "assaulted" him. Obviously, in pro wrestling, they are trying to make it look real without really hurting the guy, he hit Jerry in the chest at just the right offbeat of his heart and it damn near killed Jerry, they worked on him behind the screen for 10-15 mins. It was interesting to hear from someone who went through that. We had a high school baseball player here several years ago die from taking a fastball in the chest during a legion ball practice.

If they had any shred of good news we would have heard by now. After not hearing anything last night and today I have the suspicion its probably a really bad situation for the young man.

I believe Leach had a massive heart attack, not a cardiac arrest. And Leach was unattended for 10-15 minutes. That is what really got him.
