what he actually posted was that the family has been told to get there and say their goodbyes.

What Lane supposedly said read like he either had been incorrectly told that Leach had already passed and was reacting to it, or he was giving the reporter something he could publish later and he ran with it right away. People write obits and statements like that ahead of people passing away all the time.
