Coach Steel is currently the Asst. Head Coad and Defensive Coordinator at Alabama under Nick Saban. Coach Saban has said the he is as ready to be a HC as anybody he has ever been around.
Also, he played football for Tennessee as a LB.

Would be good for him. Would hate to see it from a Bama stand point. He's an excellant coach and Tenn would do well to have someone like him. By the way.. loved seeing where Cutcliffe has come out and said thanks but no thanks. I reckon Duke > Tennessee job right now.

saw this discussed in another thread. Wouldnt they just hire Chavis from within if they wanted to go with someone with little/no HC experience?

You're talking about a guy who took over a down Baylor program and only drove it further into the ground. Utenn picks Steele and they will be in for a bad fricking time.

I agree. He's a great coordinator, and I'd hate to lose him, but I don't think he's a great HC hire.

Plus, if he leaves that opens up a coaching spot and we can snag Dabo...Smart would just become the official D-coord. (he's actually already listed as the D-coord.)

Seriously, he went 9-36 in his only four years as a Head Coach and someone is talking about dumping him off in the toughest confence in college football and in the same division with Meyer and Richt. This would only end badly for Utenn.

IF I were Tenner, I wouldn't want Steele.
