“The first two TD passes that were thrown the other day, those were Mike Bobo’s ideas.”

The first TD was a basic play (bowers)
I liked the motion with Daijun presnap and the pulling lineman. Those were quality wrinkles.

The second TD was to McConkey. It was a great dagger after the interception. I don't remember much about it other than knowing we would take a shot and the ball was well placed inside the safety.

The third TD (sounded like a grad assistant's play from the speech. Thanks for sharing) was to Washington.
We should be running that play once every other game. Either Washington or Bowers are going to find themselves with leverage.

Is there still a segment of the fanbase out there that pines for Bobo as our OC, or even, god forbid, our HC?

I recall people wanting him as HCIW as Richt's successor, back in the day.

I just remember that he was an upgrade over Richt calling plays (and we had some potent offenses under BOBO) but I also remember playing drinking games based around his predictability.

Also, I'm not sure why Bobo is allowed on the field as an analyst? Can he be on the field so long as he isn't "coaching"? I was under the impression that there were strict rules on such, although I readily admit I'm not well versed upon what an analyst can and cannot do.

GameDay is different than practice.
No analysts on the field in practice.
OK on gamedays.

Thank you for clarifying.

Any particular reason for it being okay on GameDay? I understand that analysts aren't allowed to "coach" and them being on the sideline just seems to muddy up the waters.

There is so much going on during the game with 105 players (70 on the road) that a lot of support staff is needed (technology, medical, etc) You also have position coaches in the booth.

So, Bobo fills a role in that regard. Got it, and I thought that might be the case.

That said, are there hard baked rules as to what support staff can and cannot do on the sidelines on GameDay? Like, can Bobo grab Carson Beck as he's walking off the field and "coach him up" after a series? Would that be any kind of violation, or does all of that pertain only to the practice field?

I always thought an analyst position was cut and dry, and couldn't have meaningful contact with the players, lest they be deemed a "coach" and the school be in violation of the coaching limits placed upon the schools.

That is, until I noticed Bobo on the sidelines on GameDay. Seeing him got me questioning everything that I thought that I knew about these analyst positions, and that maybe we could be in some kind of violation...yet, if we were, would we be so obvious with it? It confused the shite out of me, largely due to my ignorance on the subject.

So far as I know, the analyst can run a PowerPoint film study for the athletes (effectively coaching without one on one contact).

The analyst can help on the sidelines during games (I'm unaware of a rule where the analyst cannot communicate with the players. Maybe he communicates with staff only. But I doubt it. Courson and his staff aren't coaches. But they can communicate direct with players. Who is to say what Bobo's on field title is on Saturday?

Yeah. I'm sure that we are in compliance, as that would be a dumb fricking thing to get nailed on. I was (am) largely ignorant about the "do's and dont's" with regards to the analyst position, and even moreso than I originally thought.

Either way, Go Dawgs!

Yea, it’s crazy, but there isn’t actually any NCAA rules about analysts per se. Just that they can’t coach players directly or they would be considered a coach going against the coach limit. They used to not even go on the field, but now they do because, no one can prove they are coaching the players lol

Oh, for sure. That has always been my impression of what an analyst does: break down game film and add to the ongoing discussion with the various positional coaches to which they are charged.

I was just curious as to why Bobo is on the field. I, ignorantly, thought that might violate NCAA rules.
