RBR Article

quote:

The Crimson Tide are the only CFP contender to face a Top 10 schedule.

They faced five then-ranked teams on the road, four of whom were in the Top 10, going 3-2

They were undefeated the entire season save a 2PAT in overtime and a FG on the last second of the game —

Alabama is four seconds away from being undefeated. More impressively, the Crimson Tide did so with its star quarterback hurt for half the season, with a significant injury to his throwing shoulder.

The Crimson Tide join Georgia and Michigan as the only teams in the Top 10 of offensive efficiency and defensive efficiency. They are ranked 3rd overall in opponent-adjusted metrics for a reason.

The only four teams in the Top 20 in offensive, defensive, special teams, and overall efficiency are:

Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, and Alabama.

The 5th overall team? It’s not even Tennessee — assuming the Vols were healthy, which they are not — is actually Kansas State, not UT.

Every 1- or 2-loss contender outside of Alabama has either a terrible schedule (TCU, Clemson, USC, OSU) or has a double digit loss (Tennessee, OSU) — and the Buckeyes dropped theirs at home, no less.

And, every 1- or 2-loss contender outside of Alabama has a serious deficiency on one entire side of the ball:
Defense for the Trojans, Vols, and Horned Frogs. Offense for the Tigers.

quote:

Nick Saban asked the question Saturday night, “who would be favored” if you lined up all the teams. Good question. Turns out that, like your lying eyeballs, and reams of analytical data, Alabama would be favored against every other 1- and 2-loss contender. Three of them by at least a TD, and two by double digits.

quote:

Against the undefeateds, Alabama is a pick’em against Michigan.
Georgia is deservedly the only game where Alabama is a clear underdog.

Alabama vs. Clemson: Alabama -13.09

Alabama vs. USC: Alabama -11.44

Alabama vs. TCU: Alabama -7.78

Alabama vs. Tennessee: Alabama -4.26

Alabama vs. OSU: Alabama -2.15

Alabama vs. Michigan: Michigan -.06

Alabama vs. Georgia: Georgia -8.33

ETA: I don't think we get in, but I definitely think we're better than TCU

I posted Bama at 3 mainly because of the pairings. The committee knows hat a Mich/Osu rematch is dumb when they just played and it was a blow out. Also Ga/Tcu isnt not a very enticing matchup.

Honestly Im kinda mixed about being in playoffs. Bama has played like total shite at points no doubt but is that comparative to the Bama standard or relative to say a tcu or usc?

I believe we get in just for the simple fact that when Bama played Tennessee. We were ranked #3 they were #6. When Bama lost they dropped 3 spots to #6. Bama and TCU lost in similar fashion by a FG except TCU went to overtime and lost. However, Tenn was a much higher ranked team than K-State. There is no way TCU drops only 1 spot when Bama dropped 3 and to a tougher opponent on the road.
Just off that alone, Bama deserves to make the top 4 as the committee decided with Bama 2 losses they are still the 6th ranked team. How can Bama not rise 2 spots IMO.

IMO they either need to keep the top 4 the exact same or replace TCU and USC with us and Ohio State. You can't punish USC for playing an extra game and losing it and not punish TCU for the same thing. On the other side of that coin, you can't reward Ohio State for sitting at home and not reward us for sitting at home when both teams ahead of us lost.

Disagree completely with your premise that the USC and TCU situations are the same. There's a difference between losing a close game and getting blown out. Southern California lost by twenty three points last time they played. Also, overall record matters. That was TCU's first loss, while it was USC's second.

The most intriguing matchups would be Georgia v. TCU ( or Ohio State)
Alabama v. Michigan

If they insist on putting Ohio State and TCU in, they'll put Ohio State against Georgia, which wouldn't be fair to the #1 team having to play the tougher opponent.

Why we need to worry about Clemson. They are now a conference champion with only 2 losses. The committee could easily justify them jumping us in the poll and moving to 5.

Truth be told, we should be the 3 seed and TCU the 4 seed. Teams who get run out of their own stadium have no business in the playoff.

If you put Overrated State at 4 and leave TCU at 3, you penalize Georgia. That shouldn’t happen.

What the should do (but won’t) if those 2 are in is have Overrated State rematch Michigan. We already saw that blowout, and they can’t use the “tough road game” excuse. They got ran off their own field.

They will go out of their way to avoid a rematch.

If we swapped schedules with Michigan, we'd look unstoppable, while Michigan would likely have 3 or 4 losses. People are buying the fool's gold (yet again). Michigan will get exposed in embarrassing fashion when Georgia steamrolls them. They won't even put up a quarter of the fight that LSU did.

Same with TCU's schedule even though people will want to point out the Texas comparison. But I still think we'd wreck shite with TCU's schedule while they'd suffer multiple losses with our schedule.
