Yeah. Averaging more than 30 pts per game has been awful.
Pretty much.

I understand criticizing certain aspects of his playcalling, but I don't understand the level of ire he draws from some people.

Shitty situational playcalling aside, he runs a 20/20 offense that nets a ton of yards between the 20s and can't score inside of it.

People point to our offense being 27th in total offense (read: yardage) which proves my point because we're also 51st in scoring and 78th in red zone offense.

He's also abysmal at preparation and game planning and thus we're sloppy in our first few drives which doesn't help when our defense is a sieve as well. Case in point, we’ve scored points on ONE opening drive this year and the rest have consisted of punts or turnovers. That’s…not good. Our second drives were a bit better, but not markedly better: 5 TDs, 3 punts, 3 fumbles, 1 field goal.

Cincy - punt / TD
South Carolina - TD / TD
Mo. State - punt / fumble
A&M - punt / TD
Bama - punt / punt
MSU - punt / turnover on downs
BYU - fumble / punt
Auburn - punt / fumble
Liberty - punt / punt
LSU - punt / field goal
Ole Miss - punt / TD
Mizzou - punt / TD

Briles isn't as bad as some make him out to be, but the apologists who continually point to yardage as if that's the telltale mic drop stat need to stop. Points on the board are what matter, and there's been a sizeable discrepancy between our yardage output and our scoring, especially in the red zone.
