I wonder if they’re aware of how desperate and pathetic they’re coming across

Yep.

Selection order:

1 - Undefeated P5's
2 - 1-loss P5 champs
3 - 1-loss P5 non-champs/2-loss P5 champs/undefeated G5's.

Looking back on it, there's not a clear history on how the committee looks at the groups in the 3's. They've generally favored 1-loss non-champs over 2-loss champions... but in those cases the 1-loss teams generally were coming from lesser conferences. I'm not sure how they'd treat LSU in relation to say UGA/UT/Michigan.

Things like SOS only come into play when making a selection from within a group... it's not going to put a 1-loss non-champ in ahead of a 1-loss champ.
