OK. He'd be arrested by someone who is deputized to perform an arrest, then, and not rogue football players upset about losing a game. Does Burton patrol your campus at night looking for crimes to stop?

Unless you are justifying what Burton did (which I addressed in my "waste of time" response to you), then this point is irrelevant. There were thousands of people on the field at the time, none of which "should have been there", and yet Burton still had no right to attack any of them for simply being there.

The reason why I went from instigate to justify is because outside of self-defense, there is no reasonable justification for hitting a woman like that if she instigated the engagement. If she instigated by saying something to him, he is still not justified in his response. Let's say for the sake of argument that she said the most vile thing imaginable to him to cause his response. If he were so angry at her for what she said that he couldn't control his desire to hit her, he would have appeared more unsettled than he was. In the video, he attacked her and then kept walking without hardly breaking his stride, and he didn't look back, but moved his head forward. The video doesn't show evidence that she instigated it. What it does show is that Burton attacked the woman.

The only possible ways you could justify Burton's response is if he was acting on behalf of security or if he was in fear for his life. He clearly wasn't acting on behalf of security (so the argument that she shouldn't have been on the field is irrelevant), so that leaves self-defense.

From a self-defense perspective, the woman wasn't doing anything in the video that supports a non-verbal threat (which is why I mentioned flashing a weapon) to Burton. She wasn't holding a weapon in her hand from what can be seen, and no reports have claimed she had one, either in her hands or on her person that she made known to Burton that would give him cause to attack her to stop a threat. Also, if she had a weapon, his push/hit to the head of the woman would not have sufficed to stop a threat, and he would have either had to follow up by subduing her, or run away in fear. He did neither. Instead, he seemed to casually lean over (out of his way, since she wasn't in his direct path after crossing in front of him) and lay his hand on her, and then continue walking (very casually and with no sense of urgency, I might add). So self-defense is out of the question.

You have no leg to stand on here. He should not have put his hand on the fan and there is no rational defense for it. You are being unreasonable, placing your support for that school over common decency. You should be ashamed of yourself.
