Eh, I still think the bigger issue is that offense has overtaken defense over the past few years in cfb. Offensive players are more refined entering college (as well as the NFL) than they were even just a decade ago, especially with all the 7-on-7 stuff and camps. College defenses, which Saban rode to multiple championships, can't dominate like they used to. 2021 Georgia was a historically good defense and still gave up 500+ yards to a Bama offense that wasn't even as good as some of the other recent offenses we've seen.

Saban's entire defense can be 5-star players, but only a handful of those guys are NFL-ready players in a given year. Meanwhile, offenses today might have entire WR rooms that could literally start for the Texans on Sunday (see 2019 LSU, 2020 Bama, 2021 OSU, etc). I mean cmon, just look at all the great young QB's, WR's, and RB's we now see in the NFL.

NIL and Portal has definitely messed with the way Saban likes to coach, it is highly effective if the players are fully into it. They don’t have to be anymore though, shite gets hard the Saban way, boom go somewhere else. The incentive to do it the Saban way with the gifts isn’t enough when there is better opportunities out there now where you don’t have to follow short man and his attitude. Saban needs to find a way to control the team without losing the team, he may be too old for that at this point though.
