Only if you hang around the Salvation Army because you know nothing about your surroundings.
We had a vote to reinstitute the camping ban so it's a lot cleaner these days.

I think you can say that about most huge metro's, especially the downtown areas.
If you get out of downtown, it's pretty nice... and this is coming from somebody who has tried to avoid Austin at all costs most of his life.
Until a few weekends ago, I had never in my adult life stayed in the area. Though driving the hills can get annoying for someone used to driving flat areas (Live in southern DFW), it really is beautiful down there.
Don't get me wrong, I could never live there with the traffic and politics of the city/people, but I won't continue to avoid visiting every now and then.

You travel to crime ridden shitholes far worse than Austin for football games every year, quit being a pussy. I hate cities and Austin is one of the nicest in America and a great place to visit. The crime rate in Huntsville is significantly higher than Austin, yet you still live there.
