Josh Pate did an interview on the Billy Riley Show and talked about Utah/Pac-12 football expectations.

Pate says he was talking with an SEC head coach at media days last month, and the coach asked about the point spread. pate says that at the time, it was a pick 'em game. Well, the coach was shocked, and said "you better take Utah because they are going to smash Florida at the line of scrimmage."

it's an interesting reason when there could be other reasons for picking Utah, but i don't think it's going to come down to the line of scrimmage.

Every game comes down to the line of scrimmage.

Then maybe you just don't understand how the game of football works.

2021 Florida vs Bama

Rushing Yds: Florida 245 / Bama 91
Sacks: Florida 2 / Bama 1

Somehow, Bama still wins.

I'm not a Utah "fan", but lots of my buddies are rabid Utes fans.

My comment was based on the fact that the LDS church sent loads of missionaries to the pacific islands years ago. As a result, there any many pacific islanders here. The Tongan and Samoan gangs in the wet part of the Salt Lake Valley are notoriously violent. Many of the football players Utah recruits "played" with those guys thru middle/high school. Pound for pound they are some of the toughest guys I've run across.

But personally, I'd say the biggest advantage Utah has playing UF is training at elevation. The University of Utah sits at about 5000' in elevation. Their players will have a significant training advantage simply based on that fact alone.

I have multiple friends and clients that are drooling over how good Utah is supposed to be this year. People here know nothing about them because they play out West.

Like I said, FL fans will be surprised

Utah is just a weird team to ever figure out. Their inconsistency has to be maddening to their fan base.

They beat Oregon twice, and badly, I might add, and lost to San Diego State. They beat USC last season and yet lose to Oregon State. They take Ohio State to the last second in the Rose Bowl and yet finish the season with 4 losses.

Utah is that box of chocolates.

When the game is over..... Florida will say it was not an important game, their good players did not play, it did not really count, they did not want to be there......

The LOS is basically Utah’s bread and butter. They will be probably be the second toughest game with regard to the LOS florida plays this season.
