This kid for Arkansas is one of my favorite things I've ever seen in regard to a walkon story; Logan Horst from Salina, Kansas:

Horst played one year of freshman football at Fort Scott Junior College in Fort Scott Kansas, in 2018. And remember, Pittboss was a Kansas junior college head coach many years ago, and keeps up with his contacts in the Kansas JC ranks.

Then Horst played his sophomore year in 2019 at tiny Division III Nebraska Wesleyan. Played in seven games and made four total tackles.

Looks like he then transferred to Arkansas as a regular student in 2020, and got in the program as a student assistant in the football video department, I guess for two years.

But then this past spring, he decided to give playing one more chance, participated in the campus-wide open tryouts for students, and made the Razorback football team as a defensive lineman.

He will be a Redshirt Senior, he will get beat up on scout team in practice, will never make the travel squad, but will probably have a Rudy moment (I hope) at a home game and get to play a couple of plays against Missouri State or Liberty.

Awesome story

Why is there an “equality” patch on his jersey? Jeezus.

I don't know if he is a walkon and I think he is but Drew Winn of Pea ridge took his team to state against Treylon Burks of the Warren Lumberjacks. He was recruited by Bert but kept messing up his recruiting and when Chad took over, he no longer pursued him and he went to Pitt State in Kansas. He spent his time not seeing much playing time as a RB but to me when I watched him play, he should have played at slot instead. He decided to come to Arkansas where he wanted to go in the first place. Thankfully Sam gave him this chance.

If folks remember Joe Adams well this dude has a better 40 time and broad jump. He was underrecruited and was on the brink of getting a scholarship from Arkansas but a coaching change screwed that up.

UGA safety Dan Jackson was a zero star recruit. Here's his 247 profile- Dan Jackson 247

As a walk-on he earned the nick name "Dirty Dan" on the scout team.

He found his way onto the field in 2021 due to injuries ahead of him, and he played himself into a starting role. He was on the field running lead block for Kelee Ringo in the pick six to end the National Championship.

And with NIL, his tuition and expenses are now being paid though he is still technically a walk-on.

Hell of a ride for the young man.

Arky fans remember him best for blocking one of their kicks-

Honorable Mention- Ladd McConkey

Although 247 claims he was a 3 star recruit, another article from the time period says he was a zero star recruit at the time of his offer.

About his offer...

16 days before signing day (Feb 2020), Ladd had zero scholarship offers from any P5 school. It was all Furman and the like. He and his HS coach had decided he would likely be signing with UT-Chattanooga. Then Georgia swooped in and offered him a full ride. This triggered some interest immediately, as Vandy decided to also make him an offer. This must also be where his supposed three stars come from on 247.

His HS coach said all the FCS schools started calling him and saying he'll never play at UGA, he'll never see the field, don't let him go there, it's a waste of his potential, he's too small for the SEC, etc. But his HS coach said no, he has faith in Ladd's ability to play at a high level. Ladd stuck with UGA.

And look at him now-

In 2021 he finished with 5 TD's receiving, and one TD on a jet sweep. Those didn't come against cupcakes in garbage time- it was against vandy/auburn/kentucky/mizzou/Alabama.

He has 447 yards on 31 catches for an average of 14.4 ypc.

He was #3 on the team in receiving, behind only Brock Bowers and Jermaine Burton, both of whom are on this years All-Sec First Team preseason poll.

The sky is the limit for this guy who nobody wanted out of high school.
