...what is the all-time record for most games played in a season in D1 baseball, and how far did they get?

ETA: Will post the answer if the thread drops off the first page without getting it.

Don’t know the most but Wichita State used to play a shite ton of games IIRC

ETA: they played 87 in 1982 and were the CWS runner ups. Played 88 in 1985 but lost in the regional. They have a few more seasons where they played low 80s but those two look like the most.

Man that made me realize that it’s been 26 years since Wichita State was in the CWS. I’d really love to see them become good again one day.

That program ended when Gene Stephenson tried to kill a man.

Remember, Soggy Burrito had one guy on the team who would become a hollywood success:

Then, later, Soggy fed the lions and the rest is history.

Let’s just say if Gene Stephens’ Wichita State teams played against Tony Vitello’s Tennessee teams....

The Tennessee batters would not be digging into the batters box.

Disturbing and sickening twist on the story--at least about the 'defendant' that I didn't know about. Wanted to find a link for the UK fellow as I'm sure a lot of folks aren't familar with the on-deck incident...............

Wichita State has the best single-season won/loss record in NCAA history at 73-14 (87 games) in 1982. However, the Miami Hurricanes won the CWS title that season.

They plunked a LSU batter in the national title game in 1991. Early in the game Armando Rios hit a home run, as he was crossing home plate he gave a fist pump and said “boom”. The Wichita State pitcher had been waiting near home plate and he said something to Rios at that time. The next time Rios batted, with a new pitcher up, Rios got plunked in the butt on the first pitch. Rios then added an insurance run as the next batter hit a triple and LSU won the national title 6-3.

Even in the national title game Wichita State was going to throw at hitters that they deemed had crossed the line.

Yep. I liked it when the smaller schools were good - Fullerton, Long Beach State, Rice, Pepperdine, Wichita State, etc.

It’s also weird not seeing ASU, OSU, and ole white shoes Clemson in there.

The weirdest of all is not seeing the USC Trojans.

They hardly ever make the field of 64 anymore

Costner never played for CSF, but they were indeed good buddies.

Kevin was even nice enough to give that man a job on one of his picture shows when he got down on his luck while working for some commuter school in Austin.

I am guessing it's a Wichita State team. and they probably finished 2nd in the CWS to LSU.

Well Skip was at Miami and they beat them. Technically he’s not wrong if we’re using the A&M fan system of bragging about our coach’s titles at previous schools.

Just messing with you. Doesn’t feel right to make fun of anyone except Tennessee right now. Good luck in Omaha.
