There are a lot of long-standing games between teams with huge fan bases. Replacing Tennessee with (no offense) Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, etc. is just dumb.

To be fair not many people outside of Alabama or Tennessee are interested in that game at all. Hence why it probably isn't carrying a lot of weight in the 3-6 vs. 1-7 argument going on within the SEC at the moment.

Hereinlies the issue I think a lot of us have. Why should it matter if fans of other schools don't care about the games that are important to the fan bases involved?

I don't know how you determined this, or if you're just guessing.

Alabama/Tennessee hits cable season-high, tops week eight

quote:

Last Saturday’s Tennessee-Alabama college football game averaged a 2.6 rating and 4.68 million viewers on ESPN, marking the highest rated and most-watched game of the season on cable. The Crimson Tide’s win also ranked as the top game of the weekend, the first time since Week 2 in 2018 that a cable game topped the charts.*

And yet, people watch it. More than people watch most other Alabama games, and almost as many as a lot of Alabama games on braodcast (so it isn't an "Alabama thing" only).

1. Alabama/Auburn (10.4M) (CBS)
2. Alabama/A&M (8.3M) (CBS)
3. Alabama/Florida (7.9M) (CBS)
4. Alabama/Miami (5.7M) (ABC)
5. Alabama/Arkansas (5.5M) (CBS)
6. Alabama/LSU (5.1M) (ESPN)
7. Alabama/Ole Miss (4.8M) (CBS)
8. Alabama/Tennessee (4.7M) (ESPN)

1. LSU/Alabama (5.0M) (ESPN)
2.Tennessee/Alabama (4.7M) (ESPN)
3. Arkansas/Georgia (3.85M) (ESPN)
4. Auburn/LSU (3.79M) (ESPN)
5. Alabama/Miss St (3.5M) (ESPN)
6. Texas/Arkansas (3.4M) (ESPN)
7. Tennessee/Florida (3.2M) (ESPN)
8. Louisville/Ole Miss (3.1M) (ESPN)
9. Kentucky/Florida (3.1M) (ESPN)
10. Florida/LSU (2.9M) (ESPN)

It was the 2nd highest rated game on cable last season
