In effect, you would have two permanent opponents.

For instance, Alabama’s permanent opponent will be Tennessee and Tennessee’s permanent opponent will be Vanderbilt. So Tennessee will play Alabama and Vanderbilt every year.

No, that'd be a 2-6 model. Tennessee would have 2 opponents that didn't change in that situation : Alabama and Vanderbilt.
